Share files from the file server
If you need to work on a file with a colleague at home, or send a large file to someone, follow these steps to share directly from the file server.
Step-by-step guide
- Log in at https://files.njstatelib.org/ - see Access shared files remotely
- Browse to the folder with the file you want to share
- Locate the file you would like to share. Click the 3 dots – "..." – or right-click on the file name, then select Details from the menu.
- A panel will appear on the right side of the page. Click the Sharing button.
- This will switch to the Sharing panel.
If you're sharing the file with someone who can access it already (e.g. sending a quick link to a colleague), click the clipboard icon next to Internal link.
The link will be copied to your clipboard automatically and you're done.
If you're sharing the file with someone outside the library, you'll need to make a new share link. Click the icon next to Share link: - The icon will change to 3 dots, and the link is copied to the clipboard.
You can now send the link and the recipient will be able to see and download the file. If you want to add a password, set an expiration date, or change other settings of the link, click the 3 dots icon:
You can make changes to the link even after you've sent it. The URL to share will stay the same.
You can see all the files you've shared – and all the files shared with you – by clicking Shares on the left hand menu
