FAQ about the New Teams app

Overview

The "new" Teams app has replaced the version of Teams we've all come to know and love.

The new app works a little differently, so we've prepared a guide to help with the transition.

Has my Teams data changed or been moved?

This is just a change to the Teams desktop app. Data stored in Teams, OneDrive, or Sharepoint has not moved or been changed.


How can I hide pop up notifications for new chat messages?

  1. Click the "Settings and more" button in the Teams app - 3 dots in the top menu bar, to the left of New Jersey State Library

  2. Select the Notifications and activity option from the left menu

I want to see a pop up but not show the content of the message

  1. Under Notifications, uncheck the Show message and content previews in notifications option

I don't want to see a pop up at all

Switching Notifications to Off at the top of the page will NOT disable chat pop ups. Follow the steps below to disable chat notification pop ups.


  1. Locate the Chats and channels section
  2. Locate the Chat message notifications option and set the dropdown to Off
    Locate the Replies to my channel posts and replies option and set the dropdown to Show in Activity or Off
    Locate the Likes and reactions option and set the dropdown to Show in Activity or Off


What happened to my Team channels?

The first time you start the new Teams client, you may see your teams as a set of blocks, and channels are not visible.


To restore the Team list view and see channels, follow these steps:

  1. Locate the button with 3 dots in the top menu bar and click it. Then click Settings from the menu that appears
  2. Select Appearance and accessibility from the Settings menu
  3. Locate the Layout item on the right side panel that appears and select the List view
  4. Your change is saved automatically. Click the Teams icon on the left menu to return to the team list


How can I switch back to the old Teams app?

The new Teams app is the default starting March 30, 2024. The classic Teams app will be only available until mid-May.


If you need to use the classic Teams app temporarily, you can switch back to it by following these steps:

  1. In the new Teams client, locate the button with 3 dots in the top menu bar and click it
  2. Click New Teams on the menu that appears
  3. Teams will reload and you'll be using the old Teams app
