Sign up for multi-factor authentication
Multi-factor authentication secures your NJSL account with an extra challenge like a text message, mobile app prompt, or numeric code. It's an easy and important way to keep your account secure.
Please follow the steps below to make your work account more secure by setting up this extra protection.
How to add multi-factor authentication to your NJSL account
Please contact the IT HelpDesk with any questions about MFA enrollment, or any issues during setup.
Here's how to get started
- Open your web browser and go to https://mfasetup.njstatelib.org/
Enter your work email and password in the Microsoft login box
Before entering your email and password, always confirm the URL starts with https://login.microsoftonline.com/
- If you've set up an MFA method already, you'll be asked to use it. You may need to enter a code from a text message or app on your cell phone.
- Otherwise, you'll see the screen below. Click the Next button.

If you selected Phone, do not enter your work number. Selecting those options may get you locked out, since you need to sign in to receive work calls.
Authenticator app
- Follow steps on the screen to download the authenticator app. Then click the Next button.
- Continue following the steps on the screen until you get to a page with a QR code.
- Here, follow the steps to scan the QR code with your phone's camera. Follow steps on screen to complete the signup.
Phone
- Click the I want to set up a different method link.
- Select Phone from the Choose a method dropdown and click the Add button.
- On the screen labeled Phone, enter your cell phone number and select the Text me a code button.
- Click the Next button. You'll receive a text message and will be able to finish the signup from there.
