FAQ about Teams Calling
Placing and managing calls
How will my number appear when I place outside calls?
Outgoing calls will show up like this:
- NJSL State Street: NJ ST LIBRARY
- TBBC: NJ TALKING BOOK
Do I need to dial 9 before the number when placing an outside call?
No. Just dial the phone number, including area code.
Will extensions work with the new phone system?
Yes. You can still reach staff using 3-digit extensions.
ith the Teams phone system you will no longer dial 0 to connection from NJSL → TBBC or vice versa
Will 5-digit short dialing to state offices work with the new phone system?
Yes. The 2-, 4-, 5-, 6-, and 7- prefixes will still work to reach other state offices.
Can phone calls be transferred, forwarded, etc.? Can calls to a desk be sent to individual staff after 4 rings?
Yes. The new phone system supports call forwarding, hold, cold or warm transfers, and call groups like the ones used by NJSL Reference, NJSL Circulation, and TBBC Reader Services.
Can I set all calls to be forwarded to another number?

Can I allow another staff member to answer or place calls for me?

Notifications
Will my phone still ring if I'm in a meeting?
Yes. You can set your status to Do not disturb to stop new notifications without interrupting your call or meeting.
Can I silence calls / notifications?
Yes.
- To silence notifications on ALL devices, set your status to Do not disturb.
- To silence notifications on ONE device, sign out of Teams on that device.
What does an incoming call look like on the PC? Can I do something else on the PC while on a call? How about a demo?
You can use your PC for other tasks while on a call by minimizing or clicking away from the call window.

Phone equipment
If I have a desk phone, will calls still ring on my PC?
Yes. Any device where you are signed in to Teams will ring or notify you when a call comes in.
Will I be able to place and answer calls on my PC without a headset?
Yes. These calls will use your laptop's built-in speakers and microphone. Be aware this will be like using a speakerphone, and could be difficult or disruptive in an office environment.
Can I use a personal headset with an NJSL-issued laptop?
Yes, but IT cannot support your personal equipment or troubleshoot problems with it.
Can I use an NJSL-issued headset with a personal laptop?
Yes, but IT cannot support your personal equipment or troubleshoot problems with it.
Is the PC headset a wireless device?
No. The PC headset will be wired. The goal is a headset that has high-quality sound and sound isolation, is lightweight and comfortable for all-day use, and is always ready when you need it.
Voicemail
How can I check my voicemail?
Voicemail messages will show up in your email Inbox.

Yes. Each voicemail message email includes a transcript of the voicemail and an audio file.
